A Brief History
Originally, David and Keith were called 'The Transformers'. This was 1976 and before the robots in disguise. We recorded songs in a front room on a cassette recorder with such titles as 'Demon Eye' 'Extra-Terrestrial Space Tourist' and 'Superhero'. Nobody heard them but folks we forced to listen to them in the street at the time thought it sounded like the Pistols. This was the first time we realized that some people are easily fooled. David and Keith came together again in 1986 under the name Watchmen (yeah, we know, it was a famous comic a year later in 1987, which is why we dropped the name in later years). We recorded our first studio EP in 1987, comprising the tracks: 'Desperation Lust', 'Mary Was' and something else which escapes me right now. One (and only) review of the time, said 'Time to go Live'.

Well, we certainly listened to that Simon! And only five years later, in 1992, Unlegal People - as they were now called and now joined by Rich - played a total of one show and then retired from the music business. That show has now become legendary and many, including the band themselves, now believe it never actually happened at all. This would be the case apart from one solitary photograph taken that night. We recorded our second studio EP in 1992, comprising of the tracks 'Old Fashion', 'One-Day Fix' and 'You Don't Belong'.
That song title was a sentiment echoed in some lovely letters we received from record companies that year - all sending us their best wishes as long as we never contacted them again! Undeterred and only 21 years later, Unlegal People recorded their debut LP 'Whoooosh!' which proved beyond any shadow of a doubt, that the band's sense of time is different to the rest of the world. They may even go live to promote it (update: we didn't) , especially as they've become a popular fixture on the UK's official unsigned chart Tourdates (how ironic), have gained some famous fans and currently still possess the majority of their faculties. (update to come! in the process of counting...) You may, or may not, have time to prepare for this ... UPDATE: But you probably do. It's only taken 10 years for the band to return to the studio after all. NEW LP COMING IN 2024! |
